Slim sets of binary trees

چکیده
A classical problem in phylogenetic tree analysis is to decide whether there is a phylogenetic tree T that contains all information of a given collection P of phylogenetic trees. If the answer is “yes” we say that P is compatible and T displays P . This decision problem is NP-complete even if all input trees are quartets, that is binary trees with exactly four leaves. In this paper, we prove a sufficient condition for a set of binary phylogenetic trees to be compatible. That result is used to give a short and self-contained proof of the known characterization of quartet sets of minimal cardinality which are displayed by a unique phylogenetic tree.

A New Heuristic Algorithm for Drawing Binary Trees within Arbitrary Polygons Based on Center of Gravity
Graphs have enormous usage in software engineering, network and electrical engineering. In fact graphs drawing is a geometrically representation of information. Among graphs, trees are concentrated because of their ability in hierarchical extension as well as processing VLSI circuit. Many algorithms have been proposed for drawing binary trees within polygons. However these algorithms generate b...
متن کاملFast Indexing and Visualization of Metric Data Sets using Slim-Trees
ÐMany recent database applications must deal with similarity queries. For such applications, it is important to measure the similarity between two objects using the distance between them. Focusing on this problem, this paper proposes the Slim-tree, a new dynamic tree for organizing metric data sets in pages of fixed size. The Slim-tree uses the triangle inequality to prune distance calculations...

The purpose of this article is to survey recent results on distributional properties of random binary search trees. In particular we consider the profile and the height.
متن کاملJust chromatic exellence in fuzzy graphs
A fuzzy graph is a symmetric binary fuzzy relation on a fuzzy subset. The concept of fuzzy sets and fuzzy relations was introduced by L.A.Zadeh in 1965cite{zl} and further studiedcite{ka}. It was Rosenfeldcite{ra} who considered fuzzy relations on fuzzy sets and developed the theory of fuzzy graphs in 1975. The concepts of fuzzy trees, blocks, bridges and cut nodes in fuzzy graph has been studi...
متن کاملSlim-Trees: High Performance Metric Trees Minimizing Overlap Between Nodes
In this paper we present the Slim-tree, a dynamic tree for organizing metric datasets in pages of fixed size. The Slim-tree uses the "fat-factor" which provides a simple way to quantify the degree of overlap between the nodes in a metric tree. It is well-known that the degree of overlap directly affects the query performance of index structures. There are many suggestions to reduce overlap in m...
